The cast of “The Darkest Golden Birthday”

I’m still undecided on the title.  I originally wanted to go with “The Blackest Golden Birthday” but the racist attitudes would definitely NOT see the word play in that (and this fact only dawned on me as I began to write this post with that title).  I’m still out on it.  I will overthink it, I already have.

This story is about a girl who is about to turn 13.  Her birthday is on the 13th of May and this birthday is her golden birthday; and it’s on a Friday.  Prime for shenanigans and crazy, bad happenings. Continue reading

Hmmmm…

The writing demon has been unearthed, untethered, reborn.  At this moment, it’s all I crave. Crouched on my back, pouncing on every subject that enters my brain, clawing out the eyes of my thoughts. Don’t look into its white eyes, you may be infected.

Sleep…

I haven’t slept well in many years.  It’s either broken or limited.  By broken I mean I’ll sleep for 3 hours, get up, stay for a couple hours, then nap. Another version of broken is 5 hours interrupted every hour or so.  Some nights I think it’s insomnia, some it’s just the inability to turn my mind off.  On those nights I actually sleep more than 5 hours I wake up feeling like I slept for 5 minutes.  Those days feel like groggy memories of nothing. Trapped Inside (Stephen King writing prompt) day 1

The prompt today is about being alive inside your body, but appearing dead to the outside world.  Here I go.

Even though the winter had been mild, the arrival of spring, true spring, was welcome.  I had my windows and back door open.  The breeze carried with it the wonderful springtime fragrances.  Fragrances I couldn’t explain other than by saying the smells of spring – fresh, clean, warm.  The sun was blinding in the afternoon sky and the glare from the front window made it so I had to strain my eyes to watch what was on the tv. I got up and closed the curtains. Continue reading

The reason for this need to write, currently.

I used to write lots of things when my kids were little.  I was inspired by things they did & our interactions.  I still want to write what I know & what I know is them.  About a year ago I started writing this book inspired by this girl of mine turning 12.  I thought, turning 13 on the 13th for a golden birthday and having everything go wrong – that might make for an excellent read.  I started it.  & it sat, for months. A year later, here I am with nothing else to show for it. Continue reading

34 day writing prompt challenge

So, my good friend and I decided to do a writing challenge.  This will be starting tonight.  Right now we’re writing down prompts. So far we have around 15 or so.  Hopefully, I’ll be able to commit.  The address of my new writing journal is “keeping my writing alive”. This is definitely a way to do that.  Wish me good luck and perseverance.

And so it begins… (ellipses, see)
